Famagusta Holidays

Famagusta is famous for its stunning beaches, clear blue waters as well as its history and fascinating culture. Combine all these and it’s easy to see why this wonderful town and resort attracts tourists from all over the world.

One of Famagusta's most iconic landmarks is the ancient walled city, enclosed by impressive Venetian fortifications. Within these walls lies a treasure trove of historical sites, including medieval churches, Ottoman-era architecture, and remnants of its past as a bustling port town. It’s not all ancient walls and buildings though as Famagusta's cultural scene is vibrant, with annual festivals, art exhibitions, and performances that celebrate its diverse heritage.

Though Famagusta has endured a turbulent past it maintains an enduring charm and a stunning natural beauty that continues to make it wonderful choice for a holiday.

Famagusta Travel Guide

At a Glance

Cyprus is a beautiful island in the eastern Mediterranean that attracts hundreds of thousands tourists all year round. The beauty of Northern Cyprus is that you have the undoubted beauty and wonderful weather like the rest of the island but the towns and resorts are much quieter, especially the beaches that are long, sandy and in some cases deserted!

In addition Northern Cyprus offers a different culture, a taste of Turkey without the crowds. There's always a warm Turkish welcome waiting for visitors together with delicious food. The cost of living is cheap too, with a kebab in pitta just £4 and a cold bottle of the local larger costing just £2.

Northern Cyprus ticks all the boxes for a get away from it all holiday, all while experiencing a different and vibrant culture.

Getting Around

There are bus services operating between the cities and larger villages but they don't serve all the major tourist resorts. Buses are not run by one company, different routes are leased from the local authority so they look different in appearance, but you can tell it's a bus as the destination is placed in the front! To catch one you can wait at the bus stop or flag one down on the main road.

Eating and Drinking

The food of Northern Cyprus is influenced by mainly the Middle East and across the Mediterranean, the result is delicious food with a fusion of different tastes to delight the pallet.

There are many different restaurants of all types in Famagusta and you can be sure the majority of them serve fresh local food either caught or picked that day. There are impressive restaurants in glamorous surroundings such as luxury hotels or you can enjoy dinner on a terrace overlooking the glistening Mediterranean.

You can also enjoy restaurants with an international flavour such as Japanese, South American and Italian. Wherever you choose you'll have a wonderful evening enjoying the wonderful food during the lovely warm evenings.

Things to See and Do

If you can tear yourself away from the beach or hotel pool there are plenty of things to see and do in Northern Cyprus. You can go scuba diving or go karting and there are several water parks where you can enjoy the water slides while keeping cool.

You can book a tour of the city to experience more of this beautiful medieval city, some tours include the 'Ghost Town' of Varosha, which was created after the partition of Cyprus in 1974. There are also days out on a boat sailing the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean. There are several available and some include a BBQ and you might even see some turtles!

Nightlife

There's plenty to do in Famagusta when the sun goes down. We've talked about all the wonderful and varied restaurants, so when you've enjoyed dinner you can then find a bar where you can enjoy a few drinks, prices are reasonable and the atmosphere in them are always very friendly and lively.

For those of us who want to keep going until the sun comes up there are some nightclubs playing the latest tracks.

Events

There are many events in Famagusta and the surrounding area, too many to mention here! There are events celebrating all sorts of things, music, food, folk dancing, comedy and the band of the Nottingham Royal Engineers recently played in the main square!

In June and July the 'International Famagusta Culture, Art and Tourism Festival' takes place, so do stop by when you are in area.
