Beach Holidays in Malta

Malta sits in the middle of the Mediterranean, has beautiful sandy beaches and enjoys wonderful weather so it’s a great choice for a beach holiday. You’ll find the best beaches on the north of the Island, head for Golden Bay and Mellieha Bay to enjoy the soft sand and crystal clear sea.

If you enjoy water sports then you’ve chosen the right island! Here you can go windsurfing, jet-skiing, paddleboarding and parasailing where you’ll get the chance to see Malta from a new angle.

Away from the beach you can change the pace with a day visiting Valletta, Malta’s historic capital where you can learn about Malta’s story from the Roman occupation through to the Crusades and onto Malta’s heroic part in the Second World War.

Malta’s wonderful weather and beaches make it an ideal choice for a beach holiday, soak up the Mediterranean sunshine and listen to the sea gently lap those beaches, cool drink in hand, perfect!

Malta Beach Resort Guide

What to see & do

There's so much to see and do in Malta. A visit to the capital city Valletta is a must, it has a long history and here you'll see evidence of the Roman's through to the Crusades and up to modern times when Malta played such a heroic part in the Second World War. There's a hop-on-hop-off tour bus too, get comfortable, put your headphones in and learn all about Valletta's history you're taken around its ancient streets.

A day on the beach - Malta enjoys long hot summers baking under the Mediterranean sun, so what better way to cool off than relaxing on one of its beautiful beaches and cooling off in that crystal clear water. Many of the hotels we feature are close to these beaches so all you have to do is enjoy breakfast and wonder down to the soft sand and choose your spot for the day, after all, you're on holiday!

A day on the water - You can take a boat cruise around the island, there's lunch and snorkeling included, but not at the same time! How about catching the ferry to Gozo where you'll find a slower pace of life while you stroll around the capital, Victoria.

History, snorkelling, jet skiing, sunbathing and cruising, Malta has it all!

Food & drink

Eating out is a must as it gives you the chance to sample the delicious local food with influences from across the Mediterranean to North Africa that creates a unique fusion of tastes.

Malta, and particularly Valetta has plenty of restaurants, most of them are reasonably priced and serve delicious food. The waterfront is very popular due to its vibrant atmosphere and while enjoying your meal you can also enjoy the breath taking views across the harbour and the Mediterranean.

If you have your eye on a particular restaurant its best to book a table, especially at the weekend.

Shopping

Shopping in Malta ranges from markets selling locally made crafts and gifts, boutique shops through to modern shopping malls with designer shops.

Valletta has the biggest choice of markets, shops and malls. Malta's largest mall is located in Sliema called The Point, as you can imagine it has a range of shops selling all modern consumer good, clothes, foods and there's restaurants where you can refuel after some exhausting retail therapy! There's also a cool mall in St Julian's called Bay Street Shopping Complex, this has entertainment too.

We like The Craft Village in Ta' Qali, this is a great place to buy traditional Maltese handicrafts such as pottery, glassware, and lace and you can also watch local artisans at work.

How about a market? There's Marsaxlokk Market, this is on every Sunday in the picturesque fishing village of Marsaxlokk, which is famous for colourful stalls selling everything from clothing to souvenirs.

Malta, in particular Mdina, is well known for its glassware, especially decorative glassware that you can buy this in various shops across Malta, just be careful taking it home!

As you can see there's plenty of shopping choices in Malta; markets, small boutique style shops and malls with all sorts of shops, do enjoy what's on offer and it would be great if you can bring something home that perhaps you can't buy here in the UK.
